About

Hi, I’m Nicole

I am a self-taught oil painter. For the past 25 years, I have painted on nights and weekends, always trying to balance my love of art with my career. Now, I am fortunate to launch a “second career” as an artist, spending more time in my studio and exploring my art more fully.

When I’m not painting, I’m exploring arts & culture, both locally and by traveling as much as possible in the U.S. and abroad. The process of painting allows me to reflect on my travels, prolonging those new connections and making the ephemeral more permanent.

My work is influenced by the simple and intrinsic beauty of the natural world. I am inspired by nature's vastness, and often find myself focusing on its varied colors, textures, and the way light shifts and changes. Sometimes this manifests as abstract horizon paintings; other times, it becomes a macro view of a particular color range or pattern.

For me, art is the by-product of nature stored within us. The act of painting is simultaneously a creative release and a meditative outlet. Painting brings me peace, energy and joy, and allows me to focus on both past experiences and the present moment of creation. I find that when I stop to truly examine nature, it is constantly creating scenes and moments of remarkable beauty.

“The question is not what you look at, but what you see.”

— Henry David Thoreau
